WWDC 2019: iTunes is Dead, Long Live Apple Music, Podcasts and Apple TV

This time it's official:

iTunes is dead. Finally let's say it comes back to the sources with three separate applications for music, podcasts and videos with Apple TV.

At Apple's WWDC

Craig Federighi announces new features for iTunes in the new MacOS Catalina: the integration of a calendar, a mail client and a dock, to be able to do more with the factory to Apple gas. Of course it's humor at the Federighi. In fact, iTunes is dead, replaced by three new applications: Apple Music, Podcasts and Apple TV.

Three apps to replace iTunes

It's sort of a homecoming: the Apple Music app returns to the basic features of iTunes: music, and nothing but music. The application presents a simplified interface and refocused on the management features of the music library, which can be imported from iTunes and Apple Music. The new app gets rid of even syncing an iPhone or iPod. The latter is now integrated into the Finder. Do not wait for MTP management as long as: MacOS Catalina will simply display a screen similar to the one previously integrated in iTunes. The possibility of buying music seems to be preserved according to Art Technica. A carving more than a burial, in short.

The Apple Music app is complemented by a podcasts app visibly built on the same model

Among the interesting features, indexing audio content for search can facilitate the sometimes tedious process of finding a podcast based on its subject. The Apple TV application finally allows to enjoy the video content of Apple, and will include a gateway to the Apple TV channels and Apple TV + service unveiled a few weeks ago.

Remains an unknown:

iTunes for Windows has survived? Yes for now. Apple announces that the monolith will continue to be supported in its current form on the Microsoft OS.
